MALIBU ELEPHANT BANNED FROM OPALIS TAGO CONCERT FOR BACKING PLURBEE
Malibu Elephant, a famous socialite (aka “someone who is famous because they are friends with other famous people” from what I understand) was recently publicly lambasted and banned by former AR-town mayor and current rock singer Opalis Tago from the upcoming Pelican Shock concert in NTC that she’s planning on holding in October.Malibu Elephant is no stranger to controversy on social media, and regularly gets into arguments on social media (Heartbeet and Clikclok in particular), where she regularly harasses her audience for even the slightest bit of criticism.
Some of her controversies include the incident where she screamed at a group of waitresses in a diner, another incident where she “accidentally” exposed an allergen (nuts) to a peer of hers, Laika (drummer for Prison Moon), nearly KILLING her and sending her to the hospital for an extended period of time, reportedly set her teenage sister’s computer on FIRE, as well as a whole host of other comparatively minor controversies where she said some headass stuff on Heartbeet or Clikclok and got flamed for it. (In my opinion, she’s the only person who’s out-crazied Erato Lachesis, and that’s saying a LOT.) Her current controversy is BAD though.
A few days ago, Malibu made a post on Heartbeet, talking about her excitement for attending the Pelican Shock concert in October. This is still while she’s facing heat for her latest controversy, for taking a sponsorship from Plurbee, a streaming service that turned out to be using hardware from, uhh… decommissioned Gears that were, to put it delicately, used for extra parts. Malibu defended her stance in working with Plurbee, pretending it either wasn’t a big deal or was outright misinformation (which, like, there’s an ongoing police investigation, hello) and has just been making post after post on Clikclok about it.
In response to the Pelican Shock Beet, Opalis Tago directly responded to her post, saying in a reply:
“Considering who supports you and who you’re willing to support, respectfully, don’t come anywhere near the venue while I’m there. I’d rather not ruin what’s supposed to be a fun night for everyone else.”
This post got tens of thousands of likes within the first few hours of the post, completely ratioing Malibu Elephant’s original post and leading to greater support for Opalis Tago in general. Opalis is known for her stance on humanitarian issues, so it’s no surprise that she has a hard stance on the Plurbee investigation, considering not only how grotesque but how disrespectful it is to the idea of Gears being self-deterministic and living creatures are. It’s like using a human brain to power a microwave! IT’S WEIRD!!!
I’m going to get a little bit dark here, so I’m sorry if this ends up sounding insensitive at all. I know a lot of people who don’t know stuff like this and are trying to learn more about it, so if you want to correct me anywhere, please send me an email at kerosene@cyberdude.com.
Gear death is a weird topic I’m not really sure how to approach without putting my foot in it, but from what I understand is that treatment of Gear corpses (aka bodies that cannot be revived due to physical damage, personality profile corruption, or other problems) is honestly pretty similar to how human corpses are treated after death- usually burial or cremation.
Roboticist and humanitarian Olliver Marbling:
“There’s some concerns when it comes to how we treat Gear bodies. It all depends on the Gear’s choice, really-- how they want to be treated after their frames cease working. But we can’t ignore the environmental concerns, of laying so much metal and plastic into the Earth, or burning it. It takes a lot of energy to melt down a body like that in a respectful way.
There’s a quandary there: Do we want to respect the Gear’s wishes and potentially expose the Earth to harmful fumes and chemicals, or do we want to disrespect the dead? Even after nearly fifty years of living amongst Gears, we still struggle with this idea, of trying to fine-tune the experience of living for Gears vs. humans. Should it be an identical experience? Can it be an identical experience? Of course not.
Gears don’t even really “die” in the same way as humans-- if they have the right parts, or the right type of personality profile, they could even live forever, as a Ship of Theseus of themselves, or as a ghost on the meshnet. Many Gears themselves are still unsure of where they should go if their bodies stop working. And there is the undeniable stance that Gear parts that still function should not go “wasted” if the rest of the body is rendered nonfunctional, which isn’t an unreasonable idea to have-- humans do the same thing, donating their bodies to science to help others.
However, I can’t imagine anyone would want something like this-- essentially being harvested for what ends up being the most vapid content imaginable. It’s a nightmare, and I worry some people may not understand the gravity of such a situation, of the disrespect it carries towards Gear existence as a whole.”
Personally, I think Malibu Elephant just says whatever she want to get as much controversy as possible, but this kind of situation is just so beyond crazy it borders on illegal. She was sponsored by Plurbee before the Gear-server thing was discovered by law officials, and I don’t think she’s still with them anymore, but she’s really digging her heels in about having been sponsored by them in the recent past and is just minimizing a REALLY SERIOUS ISSUE. I DON’T THINK IT’S THAT CRAZY TO CONDEMN ROBOT ORGAN HARVESTING?
Either way, it’s unlikely we’ll see Malibu anywhere near Pelican Shock, and, like, I hope not. Malibu implied that she was willing to crash the concert because of what Opalis said, and Opalis is increasing security at the event for this very reason. I don’t think Malibu is used to facing actual concrete IRL consequence for her fucked up actions, so she’ll probably absolutely explode if she gets refused entry or god forbid escorted out of the venue. Everyone send your spirit energy to Opalis this October… And let’s hope the people at Plurbee get arrested??? Hello???
